Bringing the Scriptures Alive!

Following a very successful visit in 2018, Ray Temmerman will again be returning to the Sapphire Coast Parish to conduct a workshop on Saturday 9 February at St Clements Merimbula.  The purpose of the workshop is to help us proclaim the scriptures in a way which brings the scriptures alive, without dramatization, i.e. simply by telling the story as though we are first-hand witnesses.

Some of you may have met Ray Temmerman when he was here visiting the Parish last year and Ray has offered to lead this workshop for us.  Ray is very experienced and says these workshops have always been well received.

This is how he describes the content of the workshop:

I begin by explaining why we proclaim the scriptures.  Then I use an Ignation form of reflection to draw people into the experience of the scriptures. Then we begin the actual practice of proclamation, giving people a chance to tell the scripture story, then learn what they are doing well and what they could improve on and how.  All in all, the process has worked well, with people picking up and applying a lot of tips to help them improve their proclamation.

I would encourage everyone who reads in our services, leads intercessions, is a Liturgical Assistant or, who’s interested in learning more, to mark the date for your diaries and make every effort to come along.  Ray leads a very comprehensive session and everyone comes away encouraged.   Even if you’ve been reading in church for many years you’ll still find some top tips about how to make reading an enjoyable and uplifting experience and receive practical feedback such as using the microphone well.

The workshop will run from 10am until 1.30 pm, morning tea included but please bring your own lunch if you’d like to stay and eat at the end of the session.  All are welcome.  Please contact Reverend Lou on 6495 7203 or 0404 363 189 if you’re able to come along as it would be helpful for Ray to have numbers in advance.
