Mission to seafarers

what we do....
The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) is an Anglican Mission which strives to meet the needs of all seafarers and their families, irrespective of faith or cultural background. Its simple mission is to care for the shipping industry’s most important asset: its people.
In Eden, MtS welcomes the crews of visiting ships by offering counselling, local transport, currency exchange, shopping and recreational activities. We frequently help crew to enjoy local tourist highlights, like Haycock Point, and the Killer Whale Museum. We also offer vouchers for free clothing from the Anglicare ‘Sapphire Surprises’ shop.
We are thankful to volunteers and organisations which support MtS.
If you would like to enquire about the work of Mission to Seafarers in Eden or about opportunities to volunteer or sponsor with us then please contact Michael on 0423 774 735.

sea sunday - 8 july 2018
This Sunday, 8 July, is Sea Sunday where many churches remember the amazing role of Seafarers in making our lives possible. About 90% of our ‘things’ come to us on boats and most of our exports leave our shores on boats. Two great ways to thank seafarers is by supporting the work of Mission to Seafarers in Eden Port (or in any of the many other Ports throughout the world where the mission welcomes seafarers) and by praying for them, hence ....
A Prayer for Seafarers
we give thanks to you for your creation
and all the beauty in this world.
We thank you for the ocean,
its abundance and for the people who toil on its surface.
Without our brothers and sisters who are seafarers,
we would not be able enjoy
all the blessings of this world.
Enfold them in your fatherly love;
guide their passage through storm,
swell and darkness.
May we be always mindful of our Global Family
and be truly grateful for the sacrifices
seafarers make each day.
The flying angel logo
In Revelations John describes '...another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. And he said with a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of judgement has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water."' (Rev 14:6-7)
Because Mission to Seafarers exists to bring the Gospel to seafarers, who come to us from 'every nation and tribe and language and people', the Flying Angel logo is eminently appropriate!

prayers for seafarers
Steer the ship of my life, good Lord, to the quiet harbour, where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict. Show me the course I should take. Renew me in the gift of discernment, so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go; and give me the strength and courage to choose the right course, even when the sea is rough and the waves are high, knowing that through enduring hardship and danger we shall find comfort and peace. Amen
Prayer for seafarers
Lord God, Creator of land and sea, bless those who work at sea. Be with them in fair weather and foul, in danger or distress. Strengthen them when weary, lift them up when down and comfort them when far from their loved ones. In this life, bring them safely to shore and, in the life to come, welcome them to your kingdom. For Jesus Christ's sake. Amen
For each other
God, you give us so much. Give us one thing more, a heart filled with love for you and for those we meet today. May we be ready to listen to others as you listen to us. May we be happy to laugh with those who laugh, and weep with those who hurt. May we share what we have with those who have less. For Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.
Prayer for strength
God grant us the strength to voyage on. Give us the courage to believe in your kingdom, in your light in our darkness, and your love in our lives. For Jesus Christ's sake. Amen
Prayer of St Augustine
O God our Saviour, you who are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of those that are afar on the wild sea. We are tossed about on the wild and raging waves in the dark night; and you, standing on the everlasting shore, behold our peril: save us in your Name's sake. Guide us amidst the shoals and quicksands which beset our course, and so bring us in safety to the haven where we would be. Amen
Friendship with God brings COMPANIONSHIP
God has said "I will never leave you; I will never forget you." So we can be sure when we say "I will not be afraid because the LORD is my helper." (Hebrews 13: 5-6)
God wants our FRIENDSHIP
It doesn't matter who we are. It doesn't matter what we've done. God wants us as a friend. So wherever we are, we can know that God is with us. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ into the world so we could know his friendship in our lifes. Jesus said, "If people love me, they will obey my teaching. My father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them." (John 14)
